Introducing a side of St. Louis hip hop that mainstream audiences haven’t heard…we aren’t all just about party music. Hailing from Northside St. Louis, O’fallon park community to be exact, comes a street scholar from a notorious block of murders, robbers and dealers. Speaking on the realities of the street Hakeem also promotes change and prosperity, a producer as well as an artist Hakeem tha Dream has an edge on the game…
At 23 years old, Hakeem surprises with a cultured mind that can speak on current events to the tragedies of the urban street. With innovative beats, catchy hooks, and mind bending substance filled flows, the movement has established a fan base in the St. Louis metro area that has spilled to the Midwest region and parts over the nation solidifying his transformation from mere rapper to professional entertainer.
Hakeem started in a four man group consisting of family called “Da Acez”. Their then local hit “Where She At” was over the radio and shows were a regular for the teen audience throughout the metro area. It was at this time Hakeem as a teen would develop his stage presence, studio seasoning, and spark to begin producing. The album “Off Tha Hook” was produced solely by DJ Beats, currently known as one half the producing duo, The Beatstaz. Reece & DJ are responsible for production on Chingy’s “Powerballin” & Jibbs “Jibbs Feat. Jibbs” & was distributed by Blue Sky throughout the metro area.
All good things do not last and “Da Acez” disbanded leaving Hakeem, at that time going by the moniker “Frequency Aos”, “found himself” and his musical style working with Reece beats, who is coincidentally the other half of The Beatstaz and a brilliant bass guitarist “Ciaccio”. A ever determined Hakeem took to the streets promoting himself as "Hakeem Tha Dream" appearing on mixtapes and opening for major label acts such as Eightball, Master P, Fiend, & Juvenile.
In 2002, Hakeem took to independently producing and developing his PiMO Entertainment Venture. Pi, stands for the mathematical equation equaling 3.14…which is the St. Louis area code; MO standing for Missouri. The results have been incredibly produced tracks with lyrical depth and content that display fresh perspectives on the same old topics and giving life to ones while showing a flow that can be grimy, witty, or introspective it is easy to discern that his lyrics are un-mistakenly heartfelt.
Forming a partnership with his childhood friend, the NFL’s Brandon Williams (San Francisco 49ers) the PiMO Imprinthas just begun its revamping of the St. Louis music scene with a restoration to lyric-driven hip-hop bringing a fresh new sound and a flair that will show the nation a different side of St. Louis.
Hakeem has built grassroots networking opportunities with producers and industry heads all over. Producers’ Coalition of America (Busta Rhymes, M.O.P.),Kenoe (B.G., Turk, Lil Flip, No Limit, DTP, Kanye West), T. Berry (Lil Flip, Trick Daddy, Plies) etc. The growing recognition Hakeem is currently receiving from radio, mixtape, and club DJs is proof that PiMO Entertainment has developed an undeniable groundswell that will soon explode onto mainstream in 2007. His new single, “Thick Wit It” produced by Ronnie Notch is blazing clubs all over the city. REQUEST THE SINGLE ON HOT 104.1 & 100.3 THE BEAT, + Z107.7!! .
