background / biography
The Official k9 SqUaD was formed in 2004, when Jason and Ken Curtis, brothers from North AND South St. Louis, who have been writing rhymes since 1999, met up with Zak Noll, a well established rapper from Imperial, MO.
After showcasing their talents to one-another frequently, and becoming close friends over time, the trio decided to take their craft a step further by acctually giving it a name. They simply called themselves, "k9 SqUaD".
Word spread rapidly among their high school student body, and instantly brought the three boys what they needed to keep doing their thing. Respect.
After recording in numerous basements, bathrooms, closets, or wherever they could set up shop, the three decided to try expanding 'k9'. Zak introduced new MCs to the Curtis brothers, but all three noticed that few artists were acctually taking it seriously. At the end of the ordeal, they had worked as a team to weed out the phonies and the less talented. However, through all this they became facinated with one of their recruits, introduced to them as Josh Brevard or "skee".
Brevard and Noll had been longtime friends from an early age, attending the same schools and playing on the same hockey teams as kids. Skee worked hard to form his own style while recording along side them and would later be announced as the official 4th member of k9 SqUaD.
Today, the members of k9 SqUaD have combined over 120 recorded tracks and are sitting on close 500 unfinished projects between them and other groups and solo artists from different areas in Missouri.
"...you should see our rhyme books! They not just notebooks with lines scribbled on 'em, they more like trapper keepers packed with like hundereds of pages and lil' folded up raps...sometimes i go through 'em, unfolding papers and think, "damn this old, buts its still kinda hot!"...then ill put little pieces of 'em in a song..." -kennyC

Many people approach 'the squad' and ask, "Why do you call yourselves k9?" Instead of giving them some off-the-wall, symbolic meaning for their name, they simply reply, "cuz no matter what we do or where we go, we always chasin' the 'cat'...come get some ladies. k9."
k9 SqUaD is constantly changing styles and proving themselves to be more and more versatile with every song they make. Each indiviual rapper in the squad is their OWN PERSON, and whether they are working together, or working independently or with other bands or rappers, they are and always will be known individually as "So-and-So Of Dem 9'z."
