There is a subtle anxiety in the music industry. With groups such as Destinys Child splitting up, who is going to represent for the single, young ladies of the world? Az One is confident they are the answer. Az One is composed of sisters: Ayanna whose name means Beautiful Flower and Niambi is Melody. It is no coincidence they were given these names at birth by their parents. When you hear Az One perform their voices come together to create a perfect melody. The harmony they create when singing delivers a unique sound, like no one else in the industry. They are beautiful flowers with perfect melody; that continues to grow, blossom, feed off of the energy; to truly create a deliverance that has been long overdue with satisfaction. Niambi and Ayanna are aware of their gifts and blessings and began taking the necessary steps to perfect their unique sound. Az One started signing in church and musicals around the Midwest. After both sisters graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with bachelors degrees, they moved back to their hometown of Springfield, IL, and started performing at open mics and booking events around the area. The demand for their live performance encouraged them to relocate to a larger city and they decided on St. Louis. They chose Saint Louis due to having a following from Davenport, Iowa to Springfield, Ill where they currently receive radio spins and are supported by legendary DJ�s: Scratch Master Dee and Captain. In 2003, Az One began performing regularly at Mello Moods, Club Viva, the Evening Shades open mic events, and Club 314. They were a featured act at the Art of Noize at Club Candela and received a rave review by the St. Louis American newspaper for their performance. In 2005, Az One was honored to perform the National Anthem in Miami, FL. at the Miami Furys Football Game (Womens Football League, WFL). Just recently in 2006, Az One submitted an audition tape to Black Entertainment Television (BET), to compete in the Wild out Wednesday R&B competition, on one of the most popular top 10 countdown shows 106 and Park. In March 2006 their hard work paid off; Az One was selected and traveled to New York City to compete in front of a live studio audience. Az One was victorious in the first round, which landed them a spot in the All Star Competition BLAZE THE STAGE in July. In the second round, Niambi & Ayanna received over 278,000 computer votes during the live taping and took second place. After BET, the ladies are still on the grind. They received features in newspapers across the Midwest; including, The Belleville News Democrat, St Louis American, State Journal Register, East Saint Louis Monitor and The Pure News. The sisters also appeared on 99.7 Kiss FM in Springfield IL, where they receive weekly spins and 96.1 FM (Champaign, IL.) on the Amy and Bryan Morning Show. Az One soon received another top honor when they were hand selected by A&R Company Taxi and Billboard Magazine to perform in the Disc Makers Independent Music World Series. Thousands of demos were submitted, but only 6 finalists were selected to perform at the Elbo Room in Chicago, IL, in August of 2006. Az One was also the only female group selected to perform in this prestigious event. The duo has taken the Midwest by storm, from being the featured act in the Central Illinois Black Expo, to opening up for Ginuwine at his celebrity party in Joliet, IL. Az One pushes the limits with non stop dedication for their love of music. Music is not just a career for the sisters; it is s a way of life. Complementing their hard work and dedication are stellar songwriting skills and great singing, which is an obvious throwback to when those two skills mattered most in a song. Az One was selected by the NBA Mother's Convention to sing the National Anthem at Andre Iguodala's NBA Annual Charity Event. Az One is featured on DJ ENOCH's Nocturnal at night show 222. Az One was just listed as one of the top artists in St. Louis about to "blow up", stated by "The Whirl Magazine." Az One also won "The Cafe Soul" competition and now gets to open up for Common.
